StashlyBot
How Stashly reads a page when someone saves a link to it.
Stashly is a place to save and organize links. When someone saves a link, StashlyBot fetches that one page, or that one document when the link is a PDF, to show its title, description and image in their stash, and to tell what kind of thing it is: a recipe, a video, an article.
When it visits
Only when a Stashly user saves, imports or refreshes a link, or when a fetch that failed is tried again. StashlyBot does not crawl, follow links or index your site. It fetches the page that was saved, the platform’s public preview endpoints for that post when there are any (such as oEmbed, a video’s page data or its subtitle file), and your robots.txt at most once every six hours.
How it identifies itself
StashlyBot sends this user agent:
StashlyBot/1.0 (+https://stash.ly/bot)
We are moving all of our requests to this user agent with a cryptographic signature (Web Bot Auth), so you can verify that a request really comes from us. Our public key is published at https://stash.ly/.well-known/http-message-signatures-directory.
robots.txt
StashlyBot follows the rules your robots.txt addresses to StashlyBot by name, for every request it makes to your site. Because each fetch happens on a person’s request, like the link previews in chat apps, rules for all user agents (User-agent: *) are read as meant for crawlers. To keep StashlyBot away from your whole site:
User-agent: StashlyBot Disallow: /
Changes apply within six hours.
Images
When someone views their stash, our image proxy loads the page’s preview image from your site, so their browser never contacts it directly. It sends Stashly-ImageProxy/1.0. Images are not stored on our servers; browsers may cache them for up to a day.
What it keeps
The title, description, author and image address, and the text: the page’s, a post’s caption or subtitles, or the first page of a PDF. It is kept for the person who saved the link, to tell what it is and make it searchable.
